Job overview

A vacancy has arisen within the Audiology Service for an Assistant Audiologist to assist in the provision of a high quality Audiology service to the population of North Wales served by BCUHB. The post holder will perform duties within the Adult Audiology service as described in the job description. The post will be based at  Bangor Hospital.  The roles will be performed in outpatient settings across the area served by BCUHB. There will be responsibility to train and supervise other clinical staff where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The Assistant Healthcare Scientist in Audiology will provide interventions with routine / non complex hearing pathologies / disabilities as well as a range of administrative duties.

Clinical work may be undertaken at the main hospital site, a range of peripheral sites and may also include domiciliary visits.

The Assistant Audiologist is NOT an independent practitioner and clinical supervision and mentoring will be required during the normal schedule of the working day.

The main duties include performing hearing screening, repair and maintenance of hearing aids, otoscopy and the taking of aural impressions, working to locally and nationally agreed protocols in conjunction with scope of practice and accountability.

The Assistant Practitioner will obtain appropriate education, training and skills to allow them to perform these duties.

This role involves travelling to other geographical areas so a UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is desirable.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English or Equivalent. Science qualification to NVQ III or equivalent Or Knowledge of admin procedures plus general education to NVQ III level equivalent Or IT qualification to NVQ III or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Audiology and Audiological procedures to NVQ III or equivalent
  • A level in a science subject or equivalent

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good organisational skills Word processing skills Ability to work as part of team Ability to communicate with staff at all levels
  • Clear speech for communicating with hearing impaired people
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to use fine tools (jewellers screwdriver) and to connect cables to programme hearing aids

Experience

  • Previous experience of clerical/administrative functions in a busy office/reception.
