Are you a passionate, driven, and experienced fundraiser ready to make a real difference?

We’re looking for a dynamic Senior Fundraising Officer – Major Donors, Corporates & Legacies to join our vibrant team based at Watford General Hospital.

Reporting directly to the Charity CEO, the successful candidate will have proven experience in philanthropy and be skilled in communication and relationship-building.

They will be organised, self-motivated, and able to work independently.

Ideally, they will also have experience using fundraising CRMs and Microsoft Office tools.

This role will lead on growing income from major donors (individuals giving £500+), corporate partners, and legacies. You will develop and deliver strategies, build strong relationships, and steward supporters. You’ll work closely with the Charity CEO, Philanthropy Committee, colleagues, and hospital staff.

Minimum Annual Income Target: £300,000
(including major donors, corporate income, and legacy gifts).

Core charity hours are flexible, 37 hours a week, including some evenings and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to shape, develop, implement and lead our Major Donor, Corporate and Legacy Fundraising Strategy. Major Donors will include Patrons, grateful patients and donations from individuals with a value of £500 and above, and those individuals whom we believe have the potential to donate at that level or above.

A core responsibility of the role will include supporting the new Development Committee (further information on our development committee is available).

This role requires a positive and proactive approach to identifying, qualifying and cultivating potential donors from the areas listed above.

The post holder is expected to take the initiative and work independently to grow these income streams with support and guidance from the CEO.

 Central to their approach is teamwork and ensuring they are communicating at an outstanding level with colleagues within the charity and across the hospitals we support.

The role requires the individual to be able to maximise income from supporters in a charitable environment, including developing compelling cases for support and being able to make compelling and targeted asks.

 A proven track record in executing the fundraising cycle is vital to ensure they understand and can deliver high-quality prospect research, identifying, researching and qualifying potential donors to produce a pipeline of prospective donors.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:
•    Raise a minimum annual income target of £300K.
•    Develop and deliver strategies for major donor, legacy, and corporate fundraising.
•    Build a prospect pipeline and manage relationships using Raiser's Edge CRM.
•    Write compelling proposals and donor reports.
•    Create tailored stewardship plans for individuals and corporate supporters.
•    Develop the charity’s legacy strategy and liaise with solicitors.
•    Work with the Philanthropy Committee to identify new supporters.
•    Ensure accurate income reporting and budgeting.
•    Promote excellent donor care and impact reporting.
•    Represent the charity at events and develop engagement opportunities.

Person specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience (see guidance document further details).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised qualification in fundraising.
  • Project management training.
  • Membership of the Institute of Fundraising.

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • A good knowledge of the fundraising cycle and how to implement it for success.
  • Strong working knowledge of charity and fundraising databases.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office suite of applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Teams) and other computing software relevant to the role.
  • Understanding of working in complex environments.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge database.
  • Working knowledge of Canva.
  • Awareness and understanding of the NHS and NHS charities.
  • Knowledge of West Hertfordshire.

Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of fundraising from individuals.
  • Proven experiencing of implementing the fundraising cycle successfully.
  • Proven experience of developing compelling funding proposals and donor feedback reports.
  • Proven experience of managing relationships.
  • Proven experience of researching and creating a pipeline of modelling and delivering outstanding supporter care and being an exemplar to colleagues.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS, NHS Charities or Public Sector Experience, including effective cross-team working to develop and monitor projects with people who may have conflicting priorities and objectives.
