Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon

Consultant

Job overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated  consultant gynaecological oncology surgeon to join our excellent team. Whether you have recently achieved CCT or would like to move from an established consultant post, we would like to hear from you.

Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest trusts in the UK and benefits from having all surgical specialties and support services required for a comprehensive gynae-oncology centre. You will be joining an established team of three existing gynae-oncologists and will work alongside an RCOG sub-specialty trainee, senior gynae-oncology fellow, deanery trainees and two physician's associates plus the wider MDT. We run the service across two hospitals (Princess Anne Hospital and Southampton General Hospital) which are co-located on the main UHS site.

We are one of the only gynae-oncology centres along the south coast to offer HIPEC for advanced stage ovarian cancer. We run a very well established cytoreductive service and have close working relationships with our intensivists, anaesthetists, colorectal, HPB, upper GI and exenteration colleagues. Southampton Gynae-Oncology Centre covers a wide geographical area including, Basingstoke, Winchester, Isle of Wight, Guernsey and Falkland Islands. The trust currently has two daVinci robots and one CMR robot with a third daVinci being delivered soon. This gives an opportunity for a keen surgeon with robot training to help develop this service.

Working for our organisation

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
