Job overview

The Recreational Therapy Assistant is required to support & enhance the psychological wellbeing and reintegration of inpatients within the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre, Salisbury District Hospital. They will work alongside the Therapy, Psychology and Nursing team, to triage and assess patients and offer patient centred Therapy and Recreational activities in order to assist in maximising the emotional health and functioning of the patient. They will ensure that any activities are patient centre and take into account the varying complex needs of our patients as they adjust to a life changing injury.

 

Main duties of the job

 

To enhance both the Therapy needs and Psychological wellbeing of inpatients.

This will include responsibility for meeting with the patient shorty after admission for triage and through assessment gaining an understanding of patient’s individual recreational interests and emotional needs taking into account their level of injury and subsequent functioning.

The Recreational Therapy Assistant will act as the identified lead and co-ordinator on recreational activities provided within the Centre.

Ensuring patients in the Spinal Centre have access to a timetable of wide-ranging and meaningful recreational activities planned as part of their rehabilitation Therapy as indicated from their assessment.

With support from Therapy and Psychology team, planning recreational activities with patients in collaboration with them and supporting them with these where appropriate.

This may be within and outside the Spinal Centre and will be in support of the patient’s rehabilitation goals.
