Job overview
An exciting opportunity as arisen within the Anaesthetic department for a senior clinical fellow to join our ACSA accredited department and enhance your skills.
This post is aimed at doctors with at least 2 years anaesthetic experience who are taking a year out from training, or whom are considering pursuing a speciality doctor career. Doctors with less experience will be considered provided they have obtained initial competencies in Anaesthesia, Obstetric Anaesthesia and Critical Care. The post would also be suitable for doctors with more experience, who wish to gain the final FRCA and re-enter training. The responsibilities of the post will reflect the previous experience of the post-holder.
Fellows will have CPD sessions when not covering night duties, some of which will be used to attend the monthly department governance and education half days. Doctors wishing to gain the primary FRCA may use this time to participate in our departmental examination teaching programme. For those aspiring to gain the final FRCA, we offer a programme of support for MCQ, SAQ and VIVA practice.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work across all areas of anaesthesia, including obstetric anaesthesia and critical care and as such must have basic competencies in all 3 area. They will have responsibility for acute and emergency care.
We can provide areas of additional interest and support doctors with exams, QI projects, teaching opportunities and are proud of our record in supporting doctors into training posts.
The posts are initially for a fixed term contract of 6 – 12 months but could be extended if mutually agreeable. The posts are designed to be fulltime but applicants wishing to work less than full-time will be considered. A 40 hr week job plan (with pro rata basic salary) is also available

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Providing anaesthetic and critical care across a range of specialites in our diverse district general hospital. You will work a rota with out of hours commitment either 1 in 8 or 1 in 10 with support from a non resident consultant. You will be expected to supervise more junior members of staff within the department. Please see attached job description and person spec for more information.

Essential criteria
- Experience in designing and implementing quality improvement projects
- Teaching experience
- Minimum of 2 years anaesthetics experience.
- Basic competencies in anaesthesia, critical care medicine and obstetric anaesthesia
- Able to cover acute theatres, obstetric & critical care on-call duties
- NHS experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience in supervising junior anaesthetic trainees
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Core anaesthesia training or equivalent
- Full registration with General Medical Council
Desirable criteria
- Primary FRCA
- BSc/MSc/MD/PhD
