Job overview
We are excited to invite applications for the position of Section Manager – Bradford site.
The successful candidate will lead and organise the day-to-day running of the laboratory, managing a team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants. Delivering a high-quality, safe and efficient service will involve working closely with the Cross-site Lead, Consultant Histopathologists, and other Trust and IPS managerial colleagues. Demonstrable competencies in the dissection area of the Histopathology laboratory is desirable, including category B specimens.
For this role, a £3,000 recruitment premium is payable to successful candidates upon arrival. We are also able to offer removal and relocation expenses (In line with the trust relocation policy). Please note relocation expenses and the recruitment premium will be paid in line with relevant HMRC guidance. Additionally, repayment of this premium, on a sliding scale basis would be required if the candidate leaves the post within the first two years.
Main duties of the job
Candidates will need to have a ‘can-do’ attitude, be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational abilities. This should be supported by well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large acute teaching hospital, and the Histology workload is complex and specialist reflecting this. Bradford has a dissection laboratory which serves to support the Trust Consultant Histopathologists in dissection, with onward processing of specimens being prepared on the Airedale site laboratory.
The Bradford laboratory is part of Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP (IPS), which is a joint venture providing a high-quality pathology service to Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (ANHSFT), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT) and Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT).

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Biomedical Science degree or equivalent qualification
- HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Histopathology or equivalent qualification or experience that evidences work at equivalent level
- Relevant post graduate qualification conducive with Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science Status (MSc)
Desirable criteria
- Membership of profession body such as IBMS
- Holds a General Management Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant discipline specific experience and knowledge.
- Experience of working within a Histopathology laboratory
- Evidence of Continuous Profession Development
- Experience of Pathology IT systems
- Experience of Pathology Quality management systems
- Experience of training junior staff
- Experience of implementing new techniques and technologies
- Experience of writing/ reviewing SOPs in line with local or national guidelines
Desirable criteria
- Experience of NHS Histopathology
- Human Resource management experience and skills
