Job overview
· CYP Cognitive Behavioural Therapist & CBT Lead – Brighton & Hove Wellbeing Service.
· Permanent Contract - 30 Hours per week. We will also consider part time hours.
The post-holder will work within our Children and Young Persons (CYP) Service providing cognitive behavioural assessments and interventions. You will work alongside other CBT therapists and psychological therapists. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a wider strategy to increase access to evidence-based interventions to children and young people exhibiting mental health difficulties in Brighton & Hove. The post holder will hold a specific role in relation to the CBT pathway and will work alongside the two established Counselling Leads who have responsibility for counselling pathways. The post holder will also offer clinical supervision and line management to Children's Wellbeing Practitioners.
Brighton & Hove Wellbeing service is delivered by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with YMCA DownsLink Group and Southdown. The CYP service works closely with Brighton CAMHS. We offer a variety of support and psychological therapies to children and young people within Brighton and Hove.
Main duties of the job
The Children & Young People’s team delivers a multi-modality therapeutic service working with 2 to 24-year olds experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. We work closely with CAMHs, the local authority and a range of voluntary and community sector organisations to deliver effective short-term therapeutic interventions.
The post-holder will join a team of CBT therapists and will provide CBT to children and young people with a range of anxiety and low mood related difficulties. CBT will be delivered via online and face-to-face appointments. Some flexibility to work from home and from service bases is required. You will have responsibility for triaging referrals, assessing mental health difficulties and delivering CBT to indicated, evidence based national guidelines.
The post-holder will liaise with children and young people, their parents, families, carers and/or additional supporting professionals to ensure effective and practical support. You will need to work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Led by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT) and in partnership with YMCA Downslink, the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service provides support to children, young people and adults with mild to moderate mental health needs. We offer a variety of support and psychological therapies to the community of Brighton and Hove. Our interventions are diverse and evidence based, ranging from guided self-help and face-to-face or telephone support to workshop and group courses. We work closely with our Service-User steering group to refine and improve the services that we offer.
For this role you will need accreditation as a BABCP Cognitive Behavioural Therapist or be eligible for accreditation.
You will need to be able to:
· Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the service's referral protocols
· Formulate, implement and evaluate CBT therapy programmes for clients
· Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CYP CBT formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language
· Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
· Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate
· Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service and keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols
· As a member of the CYP Wellbeing team, work closely with other practitioners ensuring appropriate transfers of care where necessary
· Attend regular clinical supervision of clinical practice and line management supervision]
· Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies
· Keep up to date all records in relation to CPD and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments
· Contribute to the development of best practice within the service

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level: nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or a psychological therapy
- Evidence, using the career framework, of training in mental health and experience of working in a stepped care service for anxiety and depression
- Postgraduate Diploma or Masters Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy affording eligibility for BABCP accreditation
