Job overview
An exciting Senior Nursing opportunity has arisen within our Forensic Services at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, competent and innovative Nurse Consultant to work in our inpatient medium and low secure services at Hellingly, and with our Forensic Outreach Liaison Service.
You would be predominantly based in Hellingly although some home working and community visits would be supported
You will join the Forensic Multidisciplinary leadership team which is responsible for promoting our clinical strategy and delivering high quality evidence based practice across the secure forensic pathway, promoting treatment interventions through a trauma informed lens. The service is currently participating in 5 QI projects which you would have opportunity to support and shape.
You would be supporting a strong clinical nursing team consisting of a modern matron, 4 ward managers, and Clinical Nurse Specialists along with robust operational support from a Community and Inpatient General and Service Manager. You would receive supervision from the Forensic Associate Clinical Director and the Specialist Division Director of Nursing.
The aim is to ensure excellence in nursing practice and that service delivery is based on NICE guidelines, Trust approved policies documents and guidance. This includes developing and delivering specialist training, education and development opportunities for nursing staff within the forensic strategy and health care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide expert clinical intervention for service users with complex and challenging needs.
To provide consultation informed by highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theoretical knowledge and experience.
Provide expert nurse leadership, advice and clinical consultancy to nurses and multidisciplinary teams.
Advise and liaise with the Executive Director of Nursing and Quality, with regard to any specialist nursing issues from within the care group.
Enhance the quality of the service user experience by providing high level training and supervision to develop nursing staff and multi professional staff knowledge and skills.
Provide expert nursing advice as the Professional Lead for Nursing as a member of the Integrated Governance leadership team for the care group.
Provide expert nursing advice to the Service Director and Clinical Director of the care group.
Work closely with other Nurse Consultants internally and externally to promote excellent practice and high quality within the Trust.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role
- Evidence of masters level education in related subject
- Evidence of significant relevant professional development
- Training in nurse prescribing
Knowledge/Experience

- Extensive clinical experience and practice in the care group in a range of settings
- Expert knowledge of nursing practice and multidisciplinary team working
- Evidence of inter-professional collaboration
- Advanced decision making skills that reflect a patient/carer focus

- Evidence of implementing innovative practice
