Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive consultant post in the department of cellular pathology, St Richards site, Chichester, University Hospitals Sussex NHS foundation trust.

This single post, is a permanent position as a replacement. The successful post holder will be a general pathologist with a special interest in reporting gynaecological pathology and ideally two or three further sub specialities. 

The post holder will also be expected to fully participate multi disciplinary meeting for gynaecological pathology, the delivery of teaching to post graduate trainee pathologists and supervision of specialist biomedical scientists. 

Main duties of the job

The main  duties of this post are participation in the reporting of general surgical pathological specimens with a special interest in gynaecological pathology and ideally two or three further specialities, as well non-gynae cytology.

The appointed consultant will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary meetings and the delivery of teaching to post graduate trainees and biomedical scientists

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

•    Reporting of diagnostic surgical pathology and non-gynae cytology cases
•    The supervision of trainees and biomedical scientists in dissection
•    Formal teaching of trainees and biomedical scientists
•    Participation in governance and management

Person specification

Experience/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Basic medical degree
  • • Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification
  • • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • • CCT in Cellular Pathology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree

Clinical Skills & Experience

  • • Reporting of diagnostic histopathology

Knowledge

  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty

  • • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
