Job overview

We wish to appoint a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join the existing department providing gastroenterology inpatient and outpatient services at The Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton These posts have arisen from the need to fill a recently vacated post and as a result of additional posts creation to further the expansion of the gastroenterology department.

A variety of opportunities are available for a high-quality candidate to offer and develop a subspecialty interest complementary to the existing department. However, priority areas currently in need of staffing expansion are Nutrition, Trans nasal endoscopy and Video Capsule endoscopy and other associated services.

Main duties of the job

• To provide ongoing care of patients on acute wards in partnership with consultant colleagues
• To provide gastroenterology outpatient clinics service
• To perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
• To participate in on call duties as agreed between the appointee and clinical director for gastroenterology.
• To take a shared role in the development of the gastroenterology service in conjunction with the management team and consultant colleagues in gastroenterology
• To participate in medical care and clinical governance
• At the right time, to provide professional supervision, direction, and training to the junior medical staff.
• At the right time, to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• To attend meetings of the department of gastroenterology and division of Surgery

  • • JAG accredited diagnostic and therapeutic upper/lower endoscopy
  • • Understanding of clinical risk management

Experience Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Basic medical degree
  • • Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification
  • • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • • CCT in Gastroenterology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
