Consultant Clinical Radiologist in Breast and General Imaging

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Interviews are due to take place on 16th June 2025.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Consultant Radiologist with Interests in Breast and Body Imaging to join our teams in the Breast Imaging and General Radiology departments at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

We are one of the UK’s largest teaching Trusts, a major trauma centre and breast screening centre, serving a regional population of 1.5 million in a modern PFI facility (which ensures a guaranteed equipment replacement programme).

This post will be primarily based at the University Hospital site and will involve 10 programmed activities (10 PA). You will contribute to the Body Consultant on call rota and to provision of Breast symptomatic and screening diagnostics.

We are the principal Teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School and opportunities exist for increased research collaboration with Warwick University. You will be provided with home PACS for remote viewing of diagnostic imaging.

If you would like to work in an exciting and busy clinical environment, we would like to hear from you.

We are more than a hospital.

We are building a better future.

We are UHCW.

Main duties of the job

The post will be primarily based at the UHC site but all radiologists could be expected to work at STX or in the Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC). UHC and STX are about 12 miles apart.  There may be occasional clinics at George Eliot Hospital (GEH) to cover the regional breast services; this would be agreed as part of job planning.

The post holder will be expected to be competent in all aspects of breast imaging and image guided intervention. The main responsibility is to support and extend existing breast imaging services, which includes screening, symptomatic work and regional breast MDTs.  Expertise and knowledge in breast MRI and MRI guided biopsy would be an advantage.  The appointed candidate will join the existing breast team which comprises of 4.3 WTE consultant radiologists, 4 consultant radiographers, 3 clinically based advanced practitioners and 1 that completes film reading and management duties.

In addition the post-holder will undertake sessions in the general radiology department.  The majority of work will be acute and cold CT sessions.  Any other subspecialist interest outside of breast imaging can be accommodated during these sessions.   There is also a requirement to provide evening inpatient CT cover once a week, with compensatory time off in the week.   The post holder also participate in the general body on-call rota (currently 1 in 20).
