Job overview

Under supervision and according to Standard Operative Procedures perform basic duties within the mortuary supporting other staff within the team whilst providing optimum patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for inputting accurate and timely patient data on to relevant Trust computerised systems.
  • Responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps and confidential waste.
  • Undertake telephone and face-to-face enquiries dealing in a professional manner.
  • To prepare the bodies of deceased patients for viewing in accordance with trust policies and procedures.
  • To prepare the bodies of deceased patients for release to undertakers in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the dispatching and posting of samples to authorised persons and laboratories ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Physical

  1. There is a requirement for frequent intense physical effort for short periods throughout the working day.

Mental

  1. The post holder needs to be able to multi task while performing an activity. It is important to be able to keep track of several tasks at once due to the interruptions of others and the necessity to facilitate other mortuary users.

Emotional

  1. Constant exposure to distressing and emotional situations.
  2. Dealing with angry, abusive and occasionally violent next of kin
  3. Dealing with those deceased known to the technician and their families.
  4. Dealing with the bereaved and their emotions.
  5. Dealing with multi faith requirements.
  6. Trauma, decomposed and child/baby deaths are routinely expected and dealt with accordingly.
