Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Medical Microbiology +/- infectious diseases who is currently included on the Specialty Register with the GMC, or is within 6 months of being awarded GMC specialist registration by CCT to work at the Royal Surrey Hospital.
Applications are invited for this permanent, full-time Consultant Microbiologist (+/- infection control) (10 PAs, of which 8.5 are DCC and 1.5 are SPA). This is a replacement post essential for the continued resilience of the senior clinical team and for the development of clinical microbiology and infection services across in our Trust and pathology network. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join the team of two full-time consultant microbiologists already in post, 3.5 WTE IPC nurses, 1.0 WTE antimicrobial pharmacist, 1.0 information and surveillance manager and 0.5 IPC administrator. There are opportunities for flexible working, including from home and at other hospital sites in the network.
BSPS serves six hospitals across five NHS Trusts: Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital, Frimley Park Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Royal Berkshire Hospital and East Surrey Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are looking for a colleague with FRCPath or equivalent higher degree and who has wide experience in clinical and diagnostic microbiology and infection management. Applications are welcome from candidates with microbiology or joint microbiology/infectious disease training.

Essential criteria
- Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Microbiology (or relevant specialty) via Portfolio Pathway or CCT (CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date)
- MBBS or equivalent
- FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- Educational Supervisor qualification
- Appraisal qualification
- MRCP or show evidence of equivalent qualification
- DTM&H, DipHIC or other relevant diplomas
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and skills of all aspects of Medical Microbiology, Virology and Infection Control
- Clinical training and experience in Medical Microbiology and Infection Control

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
