The Endoscopy Unit at Epsom Hospital needs you!

We provide a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for 17,000 patients per year trust wide. Our service covers both St Helier and the Epsom hospitals and successful applicants would be expected to work at both sites although you will be based at Epsom.
The service is provided Monday to Friday but some Saturday work will be expected as part of the normal working week. This will be a great opportunity for an enthusiastic person in this growing specialty.

Previous experience and knowledge of Endoscopy or decontamination is desirable.

Main duties of the job

  1. Basic nursing care of all our patients
  2. Decontamination of endoscopes
  3. Setting up scope rooms and clearing scope rooms at the end of every list.
  4. Assisting the endoscopists with the endoscopy procedures
  5. Stocking all scope rooms and recovery area.
  6. Assisting the qualified nurses in all aspects of patient care

To provide skilled assistance to clinicians during endoscopy procedures.  To function as a team member working to provide competent service in all aspects of endoscopy activity.

 

 

Principal Duties

 

  • To provide patient care during all endoscopy procedures.
  • To be competent in all aspects of cleaning, disinfection and maintenance of endoscopy equipment.
  • Commitment to personal professional development

 

 

Main Duties

 

To implement care for patients undergoing endoscopic examination under the supervision of an experienced nurse.

 

To establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers, in order to reduce the patient anxiety about the procedure being undertaken.

 

Provide assistance to the team when positioning the patient ready for scoping, including placement of the diathermy ground, oxygen and monitoring equipment as requested.

 

To maintain patient’s airway during an upper GI endoscopy and bronchoscopy under the supervision of a trained nurse.

 

To assist endoscopist in taking biopsy and brushings

 

To act as a hand-holder for patients undergoing lower GI endoscopy.  Ensure patient safety at all times
