Job overview
This Programme is for a 24 month Paediatric and Level 2 Neonatal fellowship offering experience under the Medical Training Initiative scheme (MTI) at registrar (ST4+) level run by Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
This post is for a registrar level to provide care for patients for designated Consultant/ team at ward level and receiving support/ training from both senior trainees and Consultant staff.
Our Neonatal unit is Level 2 and we have a separate neonatal middle grade rota.
Working at registrar level, you will cover either in-patient Paediatrics or the Neonatal unit. There will also be shifts covering the Paediatric Emergency Department during the week. You will also be involved in the supervision and teaching of junior staff.
Several specialist clinics are held in Cardiology, Neurology and Epilepsy, Gastroenterology, Cystic Fibrosis, Paediatric Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinology,
Allergy and an interest in a sub-specialty is encouraged and supported.
There is plenty of teaching opportunity to learn paediatric/neonatal echocardiography as we have 2 consultants work with two tertiary paediatric cardiologists from Southampton Children’s hospital and Evelina Children’s Hospital. After 1 year in post there is an opportunity to specialise in the areas of interest including Paediatric Echocardiography and Neonatal POCUS etc
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to participate in a 1:15 full shift rota, providing on-call cover out of hours averaging no more than 48 hours per week. Out of hours cover includes general paediatric and neonatal cover with the post holder staying on-site with a rest room provided.
There is a wide range of study and training opportunities and specific opportunities to develop special interests.
