Job overview
Treetops is an inpatient unit with 22 beds. Our primary area of expertise is elective
orthopaedics, but we also handle urology, breast care, and plastics. We have 14 side rooms and 2 bays. We are open seven days a week offering procedures Monday to Saturday.
Our team aspires to provide high quality and evidence based; clinical, developmental, and
patient centred care to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
Main duties of the job
PURPOSE OF JOB:
• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the team
under the direction of the NIC.
• To be responsible for the organising and co-ordination of nursing services in the
department in the absence of senior staff on a regular basis.
• To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
• To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.
• To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape the creation of a
collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent
leadership style which.
o engages, enables, and empowers others.
o uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and
o facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across
organisational boundaries.
• To be accountable as a prominent role model, leading by example, demonstrating
diverse expert clinical skills, clear professional and organisational values while
overseeing the department.
• Taking responsibility for the planning, practice and evaluation of nursing care ensuring
that the highest standard and quality of nursing care is delivered.
• To work with the clinical nurse specialists and wider MDT in developing and providing
specialised nursing care programmes to a diverse range of patients and to ensure
support to carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To assist the Junior Sister / Charge nurse in ensuring effective and efficient
management within the department.
• To play a lead role in the achievement and maintenance of high standards of patient
care.
• To use all resources efficiently and effectively and maintain operational standards taking
responsibility for regular testing and maintenance of all equipment.
• Liaise with all other departments as appropriate, to be aware of and participate in the
implementation of Trust wide issues.
• To communicate effectively with members of the multi-professional team and other
agencies as required
• To discuss and obtain consent where appropriate in accordance with consent policy.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure high standards of nursing documentation
where necessary.
• To ensure safe and appropriate discharge from the department following consultation
treatment.
• To demonstrate a sound knowledge of the principles of Infection Control and the highest
standards when performing aseptic techniq
Person specification
Qualification
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse (RGN)
- Current NMC Registration
Desirable criteria
- Degree in nursing or other relevant field
- Undertaking or completing further academic study
- Post Registration qualification in speciality
Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 6 months of post -registration experience in an inpatient setting.
- Assess, plan evaluate and implement care ensuring that current research
- Prioritise tasks
- Excellent written/ Communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge/ experience in coaching and mentoring
- knowledge/ experience in quality improvement tools
