We are offering an exciting opportunity for suitable applicants to join the pharmacy clinical trials team at the Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Clinical Trials team is expanding its workforce to increase research at Sheffield teaching hospitals. The Trust is one of the busiest and most successful NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK.

The successful applicant will be supporting the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team in the delivery of a diverse portfolio of both commercially and non-commercially sponsored studies. Ensuring all current legislation, MHRA guidelines and Good Clinical Practice standards are met. Improving patient care through research and innovation is vital to everything we do. The post holder must be able to work with medical and nursing staff and other health care professionals.
2x Posts - 1 based in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and 1 based in the Northern General Hospital
Main duties of the job
- To participate in the planning, organisation, provision and maintenance of the clinical trials service and to be part of the flexible working team in line with current departmental policies and procedures for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, current UK and EU legislation.
- To remain part of the dispensary late night and week-end rota and Bank Holiday working arrangements.
- The pharmacy provides a comprehensive array of services with the overall aim of ensuring safe, effective and economical use of medicines throughout the Trust.
- The main focus of our role involves applying our extensive pharmaceutical knowledge to ensure that medicines are used in the most effective and appropriate way as well as reducing the incidence of any unwanted side effects.
- Pharmacy has a Trust-wide responsibility for ensuring high quality medicines management and safe and secure storage of medicines.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in Principles and practice for pharmacy technicians or equivalent qualification.
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or working towards (ACPT) qualification.
Desirable criteria
- Specialist technical / Management modules or equivalent experience in Aseptic preparation
- Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
- ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience of good performance in previous posts.
- Previous significant experience of working in clinical trials
- Evidence of working as part of the multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of working within service development projects.
- Experience in supervising a technical area within the pharmacy (i.e. medicines management of a ward area, dispensary, aseptics)
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of managing staff
- Previous experience of working in Aseptics
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of GCP, GMP and QA and clinical trial legislation
- Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
- Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
- Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g., controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
- Understanding of stock control systems
- Knowledge of drugs, side effects and where to find further information
- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
- Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
