Clinical Nurse Specialist - Gastroenterology

Job overview
Fixed Term: 12 months | 22.5hrs per week
We are looking for someone to join our paediatric gastroenterology team. As part of the senior nursing team, you will help coordinate the specialist service, ensuring high-quality care for children. You will also provide specialist education to children, families, and the multidisciplinary team, monitor patient conditions, administer treatments, and communicate any changes to the senior specialist nurse or MDT. Additionally, you will contribute to nursing practice development and act as an independent prescriber within your areas of competency.

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Matron, your responsibilities will include:

Attend and coordinate Gastroenterology ward rounds and meetings, supporting nurse-led clinics.

Lead nurse-led ward rounds and patient reviews.

Provide pre- and post-operative care, education, and support.

Manage daily telephone and email support services for patients and families.

Teach patients, families, and staff on medication management and care.

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), including community and hospital professionals.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- RN Child (RSCN) or equivalent
- 998 or equivalent teaching certificate
Desirable criteria
- Diploma level post basic nursing qualification in relevant field
- Degree in relevant subject
- Working towards completion of nonmedical prescribing
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience
- Completed Band 5 co-ordinator competencies (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with the Specialty patient group
- Teaching and mentorship qualification
- Audit / Research experience
- Project or caseload management
