Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

Fixed Term: 12 months | Full-time (40 hrs)

Interviews anticipated to be scheduled early May 2025, subject to change.

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for two Clinical Fellows in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join our team, based at Sheffield Children's. This position is ideal for anaesthetists with an FRCA (or equivalent) and at least 3 months of paediatric anaesthesia experience. Preference will be given to those with completed anaesthesia training and have a dedicated interest in paediatric care.

Duration: 12 months, with opportunities for 3 months in PICU, and 1 month (pro-rata) in a cardiac unit for further experience. Additionally, sessions with Embrace for transport experience of critically ill children can be arranged.

If you are unable to work full-time, you are still eligible to apply, and the job content can be adjusted, subject to discussion.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Anaesthesia Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  • Work within a team of 25 Paediatric Consultants, 2 Clinical Fellows, and 8 specialty trainees.

  • Provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases in the theatre.

  • Participate in the trainee on-call rota, in compliance with EWTD.

Specialty trainees from the Yorkshire and Humber School of Anaesthesia rotate through Sheffield Children’s Hospital (SCH) for a 3-month intermediate module during ST3 or ST4, followed by a 3-month higher module during ST5 or ST6. Trainees also have the option to return in ST7 for an additional 6-month advanced paediatric anaesthesia training module.
