Senior Pharmacy Assistant - Cancer Services

Job overview

We are looking for an individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who is flexible and able to work independently to take on the role of Senior Pharmacy Assistant in Cancer Services in the brand new Dyson Cancer Centre, which opened in April 2024.

You will undertake a complex range of duties, planning your own work with support from the rest of the team.

You will interact on a daily basis with patients, their carers and range of hospital staff, both face to face and by telephone.

Main duties of the job

To support the efficient day-to-day running of the Cancer Services pharmacy. 

Ensure that medication is safely supplied to Oncology/Haematology patients in a timely manner.

To perform administrative duties in the Cancer Services pharmacy to ensure accurate data collection, record keeping, filing and archiving.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of organising own daily work activities and duties with minimal direct supervision but confident in escalating to a senior when required
  • Experience of providing basic technical service information to pharmacy staff and service users
  • Experience of accurate data entry onto computer systems and awareness of pharmacy record keeping requirements
  • Knowledge of procedures for own pharmacy area – on the job training, experience to NVQ3 or equivalent level
  • Understand a range of working practices and able to follow procedures whilst applying theoretical knowledge, e.g. around expiry dates and medicines usage
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • Experience of supervising other Pharmacy Assistants and Students
  • Experience of following authorised procedures and reviewing SOPs

Knowledge
