Consultant Vascular Interventional Radiologist

Consultant

Job overview

Full-time Consultant Vascular Radiologist with a responsibility in interventional and diagnostic radiology (mostly vascular and some non-vascular) for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

This is a replacement post to meet the needs of the expanding service within interventional radiology and provide an on-call service as 1 in 7. This will take the team to 8 WTE consultants.

The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with existing colleagues, to maintain and enhance a comprehensive vascular interventional radiology service, support the growth of the vascular radiology service and facilitate a comprehensive vascular interventional on-call service for local and regional patients.  The VIR consultant team are group job planned and all services are cross-covered from within the group through flexible working to maintain skills and provide an even distribution of work.  The appointee will also be part of a wider team of 46 consultant radiologists providing sub-specialty and general radiological services across the Trust.

The post will have a commitment to support a range of services, including vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures, CT, MRI, plain film reporting, interventional radiology clinics, multi disciplinary team meetings and clinico-radiological meetings.  There will be a commitment to a 1 in 7 on call rota for vascular interventional radiology.

Main duties of the job

The following draft Job Plan reflects our best assessment of what the final plan will be, based on 10 PAs.  The split between Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) for this post is 8.5 to 1.5. The exact days and times worked can be discussed at an appropriate time.

The Vascular &Interventional Radiology service is provided across both campuses. There may be scope in the future to provide IR services across the region in the future.

The Job Plan would be an annualised group job plan with the other 6 vascular radiologists involving cross cover between the 7 consultants of 24/7 on-call service, elective IR lists, daytime on-call and emergency lists, CT, MRI & US lists as well as MDTs, clinical-radiological meetings and an interventional radiology clinic.

The on-call commitments include vascular imaging, emergency control of GI haemorrhage, obstetric and trauma cases, emergency endovascular aortic disease management, reno-vascular access services, emergency revascularisation procedures and emergency TIPSS. Internal support and mentoring will be provided as necessary.

This service provided by Diagnostic Imaging is provided across both campuses, but your primary base is QMC.
