Occupational Therapist, Specialist in Stroke

Band 6

Job overview

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working in the stroke specialty. We have a part time post available within our Stroke therapy team for 30 hours per week (0.8wte).   Our stroke service comprises the hyperacute and acute wards at Queens Medical Centre and our Rehabilitation ward (Daybrook) is on Nottingham City Hospital Campus.  There is the opportunity to gain skills and experience along the in-patient stroke pathway and therefore flexibility to work across NUH sites is essential.

You will need to demonstrate excellent core occupational therapy clinical skills and have previous experience in stroke/neuro, as well as a wide range of clinical experience through other specialities.  A high level of communication and interpersonal skills is essential, with the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The stroke team has an excellent in- service training programme and there are a wealth of opportunities to be involved in research and service developments.  Opportunities exist to attend conferences and external training to support your professional development.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will provide occupational therapy for a complex caseload working creatively and collaboratively with the MDT, patients and their families, as well as external agencies.  You will work closely with the in- patient MDT in providing a 24 hour approach to rehabilitation and also community colleagues around the discharge and ongoing rehabilitation of patients.  You will work with the occupational therapy and wider therapy teams to ensure effective service delivery, supporting staff and actively developing the service.

You will receive support and training opportunities for you to develop in this role to reach your full potential. This will include peer and senior support, regular supervision, in-house and external training, as well as varied opportunities to engage in wider learning experiences.

The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the service.  There will be a requirement to contribute to the planned out of hours rotas which includes weekends and bank holidays.
