This is an exciting opportunity to join the multidisciplinary teams of the Stroke team and the Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus team at Nottingham University Hospitals, one of the leading establishments in Stroke and NPH nationally.
We are looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist to provide specialist assessment and intervention for adults with Stroke or NPH who are under the care of NUH. Candidates will ideally have experience of psychological assessment and care in neurological pathways, working with patients with cognitive, language, and physical disabilities. As such specialist neuropsychology expertise is highly desirable but not essential. The position is well supported and would access clinical supervision and support from within the Department of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology at NUH. The post holder will also contribute to departmental activities, including research and clinical governance as required.
The post will be based at the Queen’s Medical Centre site of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Candidates must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist.
Main duties of the job
On the basis of advanced theoretical and practical knowledge acquired through a degree, postgraduate doctoral degree (or equivalent) and postdoctoral ongoing additional further specialist training, to provide a high quality specialist Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology service to the Stroke Service and the NPH Service at NUH.
To participate in multi-disciplinary case assessment, discussion and formulation, highly specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation, as well as analysis of complex referrals in which expert opinion may differ.
To advise the NPH team including Consultant Neurosurgeons on pre- and post- surgery neuropsychology assessment outcomes related to NPH patients.
• To provide a specialist and comprehensive neuropsychological assessment, consultation and rehabilitation service to adults requiring the appropriate use, interpretation / analysis and integration of highly complex psychological and non-psychological information from a variety of sources.
• To be responsible for the direct care and rehabilitation of adults by the application of appropriate psychological skills
• To be responsible for the delivery of pre- and post- surgery neuropsychological assessments and for the interpretation and communication of assessment findings to the surgical team.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology
- Attendance on a regular basis at highly specialist CPT/training events, eg, those provided by the Division of Neuropsychology
- Eligibility for Chartered Clinical Psychology status and registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council
- Specialist knowledge, experience and/or training relating to communicating with patients with neurological disabilities and their families
Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice and supervision
- Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (or equivalent) or registration for such training
- Registered on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neuropsychology (adult specialism)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist with adults with neurological conditions or neurological injuries for at least 2 years
- Experience of supervising and managing research and audit projects
- Experience of working with stroke and hydrocephalus patients
- Experience of conducting and interpreting highly specialist neuropsychological assessments
- Working in an inter-disciplinary context, in terms of case preparation, assessment, formulation, treatment, and evaluation.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings and maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abusePracticing flexible, integrative psychological therapy with people with long term conditions.
- Experience of working within a neurosurgery service
- Experience of working within a neuropsychology department
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision to unqualified psychologists and psychologists in training.
- Post-qualification clinical experience of working with adults with neurological conditions and with their families
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with all of the following: stroke, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Huntingdon’s disease, multiple sclerosis, acquired brain injury.
- Experience of working in an interdisciplinary way in neurology/ neuro-rehabilitation services.
- Practicing flexible, integrative psychological therapy with people with long term neurological conditions.
- Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
- Experience of developing services
- Experience of rehabilitation techniques specific to neurological impairment
