The Nottingham University Hospitals Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is situated within The Trent Cardiac Centre at City Campus; 16 beds providing level 2 and level 3 care to patients following cardiac surgery.
The Units have a progressive approach and are supported by Band 7s, and a Matron for CICU. There are a wide array of career pathways to take and opportunities to develop additional skills. Cardiac Intensive care is committed to providing the highest quality of care and maintaining consistently high standards in a professional and friendly atmosphere. New staff will be allocated a mentors and will have a period of supernumerary time and an abundance of teaching and support.
We are currently looking to recruit enthusiastic, forward thinking nurses to our team in this often challenging environment. You should possess the ability to work well in stressful situations, have excellent communication skills and good interpersonal and organisational skills.

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for providing care to patients post cardiac surgery who are mechanically ventilated and sedated, having invasive lines, chest drains and inotropic therapy. Some patients also require additional support such as intra-aortic balloon therapy and/or hemofiltration.
You will be responsible for planning and prioritising the care in a timely manner.
You will be expected to mentor students and will be encouraged to join a link role team

JOB SUMMARY
Assess the care needs of patients and develop a programme of care which is evaluated and amended as appropriate.
Carry out relevant forms of direct and indirect patient care without direct supervision.
Regularly take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility or his/her deputy.
