Job overview

We are currently seeking Qualified Paramedics to join our Leicestershire A&E Division.  We will also consider candidates who are still within their NQP period, however successful completion of this will still be required before being uplifted to band 6. 

Candidates who are successful at shortlisting stage will be informed of the next stages of the process in due course.

The selection process will likely include a mix of clinical scenarios/assessments and interview.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 paramedic you are expected to provide guidance and support to newly qualified paramedics, associate ambulance practitioners/technicians and care assistants. You will need to evidence that you are up to date and have maintained continual professional development as a paramedic.

You will already hold your C1 category on your driving license and you will need to provide evidence that you have completed a qualification allowing you to drive under blue light conditions in a C1 size vehicle (examples, IHCD D1/D2 or Futurequals Emergency Ambulance Driving).

Working for our organisation

The post holder will report to the Station Manager and the Tactical Commander for the locality. The Divisional Senior Clinical Leader will also support with their development and the Head of Operations oversees the locality. The social element of the role will involve working in a positive team that supports each other. The DSCL will also run regular training sessions to cover all aspects of the role.

The Trust has a wide range of support available to staff including but not limited to the peer to peer and pastoral care network, TRiM practitioners and Chaplaincy. Additionally, the Trust has an emphasis on health & wellbeing, mental health support and building professional resilience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To adopt a proactive approach to the compliance with all policies, procedures and clinical guidelines as dictated by the trust ensuring you keep within the scope of practice of a HCPC paramedic.

Maintain professional registration and fully comply with the HCPC standards of proficiency and the standards of conduct, performance and ethics at all times.

Attend mandatory education courses that are essential for maintaining professional registration and/or organisational development.

To ensure a continuous duty of care to patients as required by local policies and the relevant HCPC standards and act within the defined scope of practice applicable to the role. Ensuring the patient is continually and safely monitored until the patient is transferred to the care of another health care provider or discharged into the care of the safety netting provider.

Carries out daily vehicle and equipment checks ensuring any defects are promptly reported in line with locally agreed policies. Ensures equipment stock levels are within trust guidelines and that equipment is safe and ready to use. Ensure all drugs that the post holder is responsible for are in date and sealed and that all paperwork is filled out correctly. Any discrepancies should be reported to a line manager as soon as is possible dependant on operational demand.

Essential criteria
  • HCPC-approved Paramedic qualification (IHCD, DipHE, FDSc, BSc)
  • Full clean driving licence including Category B - old style licence - or Categories C1 - new style licence
  • Ambulance Emergency Driving Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification in a related health topic
  • Evidence of NQP portfolio sign-off
