Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Corporate Health and Safety Department at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
We are seeking an experienced professional to join the department as the Health and Safety Manager to work closely with internal/external stakeholders promoting health and safety across the organisation.
The post holder will be required to manage all aspects of health and safety delivery within the Health Board to legislative, regulatory and agreed organisational quality standards.
The Health and Safety Manager is required to support with the monitoring of the health and safety management system and be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of policy and reporting of any non-compliance.
The post holder will be required to ensure all aspects of health and safety risk assessments are undertaken and any identified risks operationally managed.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be self-motivated, but able to work collaboratively within the department. The post holder should have a passion for health and safety, a can-do attitude, a team-focused outlook and have the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
As a professional manager working at corporate level across the organisation with considerable freedom to act and interpretation of legislation/policy/procedures, the post holder(s) will play a key role in supporting the Head of Health, Safety & Fire. This is to ensure that Health & Safety effectively contributes to the corporate objectives and strategic direction of the Health Board, working within the framework of good corporate governance. The post holder will have expert/specialist knowledge in the area of Health & Safety.
The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring the organisation’s defined arrangements for the management of health & safety are being carried out and they will contribute to managing the Health Board’s statutory and best practice provision that includes; co-ordinating, developing, planning, communicating, training and monitoring in all relevant aspects of health & safety, along with the line management and day to day supervision of the Health & Safety Advisers as directed by the Head of Health, Safety & Fire. The post holder will work with the Head of Health, Safety & Fire in the development and implementation of a long term, standard & consistent approach to Corporate Safety Planning and will contribute to the co-ordination and development of safety related policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Relevant Degree, i.e. Management, Clinical Governance (or willing to study for)
- Diploma level health and safety qualification or equivalent in risk management
- Professional registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Teaching qualification or relevant experience
- Management qualification/experience
Desirable criteria
- Post Graduate Degree, MA/MSc., in relevant field
- Further teaching qualifications, Cert.Ed. / PGCE / FETC equivalent
