The post will offer you the opportunity to continue to develop your skills in a range of assessment and intervention with children and young people within the Cwm Taf Morgannwg population.
The post holder will be based at the Children Centre, Carnegie Clinic , however will have opportunity to work across our other site's delivering robust intervention to a complex and varied caseload.
Although post holder will be based at Carnegie clinic you will have the opportunity to develop skills by working across other health authority sites, and will be required to work in a variety of community settings: clinic, schools, nurseries, client’s homes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a complex and varied caseload, assessing, identifying, planning and providing highly specialist occupational therapy (OT) interventions for children with disabilities/developmental problems. The post holder will implement the treatment plan with autonomy; taking sole responsibility for the patient’s safety when undertaking home visits/school and community work, and maintain clinical records in accordance with legal requirements and professional standards.
The post holder will provide leadership for junior staff, support staff and contribute to their development, as a delegated supervisor and regularly supervise OT students on practice placement.
They will work in partnership across the primary/secondary care interface with voluntary organisations, local authority and other appropriate health and social care sectors.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Post graduate training/ accreditation in fieldwork education. Registered member of the HCPC.
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate training in the area related to Paediatric OT. Management qualifications e.g. ILM
Experience
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate clinical experience, with post graduate clinical experience in Paediatric OT. Extensive clinical experience including group and individual Paediatric intervention. Experience of research and audit. Experience of applying professional theory to practice. Experience of delivering training and education to support staff. Experience of supervision. Experience in a range of Paediatric settings e.g. home, schools, community.
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of current professional issues. Ability to use reflective practice based on current evidence. Experience of advising/teaching other professions. Experience of presenting information to a variety of audiences. Experience of cross organisational working.
Aptitude and Abilities Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work well under pressure within a multi/inter disciplinary team. Ability to work within a team and develop team working. Presentation skills. Able to present and interpret data. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate in a way which will neither offend nor antagonise. Autonomous practitioner with excellent personal organisational skills for caseload management, including time management and prioritisation skills.
Desirable criteria
- The ability to speak or learn Welsh to a satisfactory level.
