Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive prescribing pharmacist to join our forward-thinking team of Highly Specialist Pharmacists.
This is a part time split post offering 32.5 hours per week, working in the specialities of acute care and paediatrics. You will be part of them team covering children’s and adult ED, acute and paediatric wards.
This role is crucial to ensuring safe and effective use of medications for patients across all ages.
In addition to clinical commitments you will contribute to policy development, adherence to regulatory standards and national resources.
Ideally you will have some training or experience in paediatrics or acute care. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and a compassionate approach to patient care are essential.
The successful candidate will have support from our experienced consultant pharmacist for children’s services as well as a well-established acute care pharmacy team.

Main duties of the job
Working closely with the pharmacy, nursing, medical and management teams, you will lead on improving how patient’s medicines are optimised within the women’s and children’s division.
• Reviewing patients with acute and complex needs as part of the multi-disciplinary ward round;
• Developing, implementing and monitoring prescribing guidelines;
• Financial monitoring of drug expenditure;
•Supporting the training and education of pharmacists, Medicines Management Technicians (MMTs) and other healthcare staff;
• Promoting the medicines optimisation and medicines safety agenda;
• Participating in other clinical activities such as clinical audit and practice research;
• Collaborating with other system organisations, including Wirral PCNs, CAMHS, community pharmacy and WCHC.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
- Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experiential learning.
- Extensive experience as a qualified pharmacist working within a range of clinical areas.
- Experience in delivering education and training of other staff.
- Experience of developing evidence based clinical guidelines or preparing written work for review at drug and therapeutics committee
- Undertaken a lead role in audit
- Evidence of post graduate learning or continual CPD
Desirable criteria
- Independent Prescribing qualification and registration as an Independent Prescriber.
- Other post graduate qualifications ie MSc.
- Published pharmaceutical research in a peer reviewed journal
- Line management experience
Other Requirements
Essential criteria
- Current UK driving license.
- Ability to work weekends, evenings, bank holidays and on call to meet the needs of departmental service delivery
