Job overview

An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a Band 2 Health Care Assistant  to join the Liverpool University Hospitals Pre-operative Assessment Team .

The pre-operative assessment service is a nurse led service that covers both sites currently.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated  Health Care assistant to deliver a high quality service to patients attending the pre-operative assessment unit. (outpatient setting)

The successful candidate will be required to work between  Broadgreen Hospital and Royal Liverpool Hospital , working in a clinic/ outpatient setting over a 37.5 hr week .

The post holder will be required to have excellent communication skills and support all patient and staff within the clinic setting, chaperoning of patients , housekeeping duties , cleaning audits. The ability to work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team is essential, together with excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse assisting the Ward/Department in providing the highest possible standard of basic care for patients and their families/carer.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist patients in meeting their hygiene needs and carry out all aspects of personal care and grooming (to include emptying catheter bags).

Provision of patients toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained

Support of patients in managing incontinence

Measures patient fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts and reports information to Registered Nurse.

Preparation and serving of patient's meals, drinks and snacks. Assisting/feeding patients as necessary.

Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the Registered Nurse in conjunction with the patient's plan of care.

Obtaining specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.

General observations of patients, reporting anything untoward to Registered Nursing staff.
