Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

Job overview

We are delighted to invite applications for a 6-12 month fixed term post as a Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is intended to provide between 6 to 12 months of Paediatric Emergency Medicine in a major trauma centre. It is aimed at early to mid-stage Emergency Medicine or Paediatric trainees (ST1-3 equivalent), or trainees undertaking an ‘FY3’ Year between Foundation Training and Specialty Training, looking to gain further experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is designed to enable the post-holder to start/consolidate PEM skills in the well-supported environment of a friendly Paediatric Emergency Department, while getting the bonus of being in a major trauma centre with exposure to a huge range of expertise and support.

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality emergency care to East London. The department receives a full range of emergencies from the local area in addition to major trauma from North East London and Essex with a total of 180,000 patients seen each year including 40,000 paediatric patients.

Main duties of the job

The post includes SHO level duties in the paediatric emergency department working on a full shift rota. Junior clinical fellows have 24/7 clinical supervision from paediatric emergency medicine consultants and registrars. The post holder will have a named educational supervisor responsible for developmental and pastoral supervision.

Candidates must hold full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
