Job overview
The post holder will be part of the Maternity Diabetes Specialist Service providing Diabetes Care and Management to pregnant women /people and their family.
This is a dynamic post that requires the post holder to work closely with multi-disciplinary team in addressing a range of care to women/people with Diabetes in pregnancy or Gestational Diabetes, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and improving the health and wellbeing of women and their babies.
Main duties of the job
Be competent as appropriate to the requirements of the role of Diabetic Specialist Nurse.
Demonstrate at all times the Trust Values.
Be a Registered First Level Nurse with current NMC Registration and have a detailed professional and clinical knowledge. They will be a specialist practitioner and have a focus in Diabetes care and management.
Be responsible for a defined population of service users in a variety of settings across the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust.

Be skilled in the assessment of complex/specialist care/support needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of care/support packages.
Have supervisory, training and leadership responsibilities where appropriate and will have some responsibility for team performance and service developments/improvements.
Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
Work with the team leader undertaking delegated tasks in team management.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Nursing diploma/ 1st degree or degree in related subject/Demonstrable experience
- Evidence of Continuing professional development and education
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate studies in Diabetes care and management
Experience & Skills
Essential criteria
- Expertise and teaching in all areas of nursing care
- Experience in mentoring students and in being a sign off mentor
- Ability to support service users, families and carers in dealing with diabetes in pregnancy
- Act as a positive role model for all staff and students
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrable experience in working with clients with diabetes and gestational diabetes

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
