An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paediatric Nurse to join our team of senior leaders across West London Children’s Healthcare. We are ideally looking for experience within leadership and management with a strong clinical background within high dependency/intensive/acute care.
You will be part of a team whose vision is to drive the changes needed to reduce inequalities and to improve quality, experience and outcomes across all aspects of child health. West London Children’s Healthcare (WLCH) collaboration across all its sites and the sector, enhances the voice of the CYP.
You will provide professional nursing leadership to inspire, motivate and empower nurses within our service, providing expert advice across WLCH.

Main duties of the job
Provide professional nursing leadership to inspire, motivate and empower nurses within the service, providing expert advice and enable growth, diversity and development of the workforce that is fit for the future.
Support the delivery of strategic and operational objectives set by, West London Children’s Healthcare and the Trust. You will act as a point of contact for advice and expertise on all matters relating to professional nursing issues.
You will contribute to both WLCH and Trust initiatives and plans, particularly with respect to changes in patient care delivery and clinical quality. You will provide clinical leadership, which inspires, motivates and empowers nurses.
Ensure optimal deployment of nursing staff to ensure high quality patient care is delivered and monitored across WLCH through effective collaboration
Support the operational delivery of WLCH and Trust Quality agendas, including risk management, and quality improvement targets within nursing.
Advocate and provide expert advice and guidance for Children and Young People across WLCH and the Trust.
Assist the Director of Nursing, Clinical Director, Head of Nursing, General Manager and Service Managers in strategic and financial planning for the paediatric service, ensuring that financial and performance targets are met and sustained
Promoting patient safety and quality through governance and incorporating research, audit and education.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide expert knowledge and advice on all matters relating to Children’s Services
Demonstrate expert knowledge by being visible, accessible and using clinical skills within the workplace as appropriate
Supervise and ensure that continuous quality improvement programmes are in place working collaboratively with the Head of Nursing and Director of Nursing.
Supervise the management of complaints and clinical incidents, ensuring robust systems are developed and implemented to inform and improve practise
Provide strong professional and managerial leadership, by being a highly visible and authoritative presence ensuring the provision of a high quality, responsive children’s nursing service with the needs of the child and its family placed at the centre of care delivery
Lead Innovation in nursing practice using an evidence based approach to meet the needs of the child, family, relatives and staff
Ensure Senior Nurses and Ward Managers are effectively managing their wards/departments, within the agreed budget and have responsibility for managing nursing budgets within sphere of responsibility
Work collaboratively with the Patient Advisory and Liaison Service, identifying areas for public and patient involvement and ensuring that the Family Liaison Nurses are involved in co-ordinating this work within the Service and all areas of the Trust where children are treated. This includes leading on the patient/parent involvement strategy, ensuring that opportunities to learn from user experiences are sought and opportunities to improve the experience of patients are families are taken
Assist with the strategic and financial planning for all wards and department within the Service, working closely with the General Manager, Service Manager and Children & Young People Head of Nursing
Act as a senior member of the management team ensuring nursing input into strategic and operational decisions

Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
- RSCN/RN (child
- Post registration qualification in specialty
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject area
- Recognised management qualification or equivalent experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Master’s degree or working towards one.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Proven leadership skills through experience of leading a large team
- Proven organisational and people management skills
- Good time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience at senior nurse level within children’s services
- Appropriate knowledge and understanding of current issues in children’s services
- Experience in quality and safety and quality assurance.
- Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
