Job overview
We are seeking to recruit a forward thinking and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Inpatient Therapy Team in Enfield Rehab Mental Health team at Chase Farm Hospital.
The successful candidate will be involved in shaping and monitoring the quality of service provision. As a key member of the MDT the successful applicant will hold a designated caseload and be able to work independently providing OT assessments, addressing occupational performance, enabling the client in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure, and will:
- Be motivated, energetic and a flexible team player with excellent communication skills
- Be able to use initiative and have some responsibilities towards the management of the inpatient treatment programme.
- Demonstrate an interest and participation in evidence -based practice and professional development and working with recovery principles.
- Be familiar with the MOHO and other evidence- based assessment tools in order to establish a baseline functional assessment from which recommendations can determine further on-going care and treatment to enable optimum functioning.

Main duties of the job
- To be part of the Inpatient Therapy Team who provide occupational therapy provision to the rehabilitation wards based on the MOHO model.
- To be an active member of the multi-disciplinary teams on the wards and, with supervision, be involved in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care. The post will involve delivery of the OT provision to a designated caseload, focusing on recovery and developing skills for life.
- This will include planning and running a range of therapeutic groups and individual sessions, carrying out functional assessments and contributing to multidisciplinary team care planning, formulation and risk assessment.
- You will work closely with the MDT to provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention as part of the acute clinical pathway. The team includes: Occupational Therapists , Art Therapist, Technical Instructors and Activity Coordinators, Fitness instructor, Physiotherapist

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will manage a caseload of mixed client group with a range of mental health needs across both the short and long stay rehab using evidence based/client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. Clients with complex needs will be managed by the OT inpatient rehab team lead who also oversees the wards the successful applicant will be based on.
Under the guidance and support of the Inpatient OT Rehab lead the successful applicant will plan, assess and provide group and 1.1 treatment sessions for patients.
To provide leadership for junior staff, through supervision and support for the OT team and other disciplines, as appropriate.
To contribute to service improvement in the OT service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MSc/BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registered OT
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of other relevant Postgraduate education/ relevant CPD
- Membership of RCOT/specialist networks eg RCOTMHSS
- Practice placement Educator Course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of mental health inpatient and/or community areas, working with people going through a mental health
- Experience in using a range of standardised OT assessments
- Ability to write comprehensive ADL reports and make appropriate recommendations to optimise patient functioning
- Experience of facilitating a variety of groups
- Ability to address physical health needs of patients
- Experience with supervising junior staff
Desirable criteria
- Involvement in research, clinical audit, quality improvement projects
- Able to prescribe small pieces of equipment/maintain equipment stores
- Knowledge of the MOHO model and its application
Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate effectively within a multi-professional team.
- Confidence to work autonomously and use own initiative.
- Awareness of risk assessment/ management in an acute and/or community setting.
- Sensitive to cultural, dynamic and diverse needs
