Cardiac Rehab Exercise Assistant

Band 3

(15 hours per week) Mon, Wed, Thurs

The post holder will be part of the cardiac rehab team delivering care to patients following a cardiac event according to national guidance. The role will include contributing to the assessment of patients for the exercise classes and assisting with the delivery of the exercise programme in the hospital and community settings. They will also be required to carry out a range of non-clinical duties, including data entry.

Main duties of the job

To assist the healthcare professionals in the initial assessment of patients for Cardiac Rehabilitation.   This will include assisting with functional capacity tests and taking measurements such as BP, BMI, HR 
and to collect other information as necessary.   To conduct warm up and cool down components of the class and to participate in the induction of 
patients to cardiac rehabilitation classes.  To contribute to the safe and effective delivery of the cardiac rehab exercise sessions. This includes safe individualised technique, exercise intensity and monitoring of outcome measures during the class.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent
  • Evidence of Clinical Professional Diary
Desirable criteria
  • Cardiology knowledge
  • BACR qualification
  • NVQ Level III in Health Care
  • Attendance at relevant clinical courses

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Proactivity
  • Working independently
  • Awareness of limitation of own knowledge
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Good time management
Desirable criteria
  • Trained in first aid
  • Competent in using a variety of IT systems eg Excel

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with older patients
  • Experience in an exercise setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of people with CHD and other disabilities
  • Experience in rehabilitation or of working in a community setting
