Main duties of the job

To carry out specific care and treatment on the ward or in clinical settings, under the guidance and delegation of qualified staff, in accordance with the Therapy plan/programme.

To be able to recognise improvements or adverse developments in the patient’s condition, report to the supervisor and document it.

To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication methods, to effectively communicate with and gather information from patients/carers and feedback accurately to therapy colleagues.

To identify when intervention with a patient is appropriate and be able to modify intervention within agreed level of competence.

To physically move and handle patients and equipment within health & safety guidelines in a variety of settings, to maximise the patient’s comfort and minimise adverse effects of pressure.

To process referrals and have an awareness of out of area patients, making onward referrals where appropriate.

To liaise directly with the community and voluntary sector and other relevant support agencies to gain information regarding services available to patients.
