•    The post holder will be an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) or RN with Anaesthetic qualification and will work closely with other senior staff and multi-disciplinary team members, in monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of clinical practice, participating in, and promoting staff development, as well as working collaboratively with other team members. Acts as a role model demonstrating excellent professional behaviour in Cardiothoracic Theatres.

•    The post holder will be employed as an AFC band 5 and will have the opportunity to progress to an AFC band 6 upon completion of an in-house competency schedule.

•    As a member of the anaesthetic and recovery team, the post holder will be expected to work autonomously and competently to perform the role of a Cardiac Anaesthetic Practitioner, following all checks and procedures, as laid down in both the HCPC guidelines and code of conduct and stipulated by the AAGBI guidelines.

•    The post holder will be able to autonomously work across the Lancashire Cardiac Centre and on-call as part of the emergency out of hours service for Cardiac Theatres, CITU, Cardiac Wards and the Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PPCI) service.

Main duties of the job

In partnership with other professionals provide excellent patient care. This process should include relevant assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the Trust policies.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of airway management. Assisting   Anaesthetists as per AAGBI guidelines in the immediate perioperative area, CITU, catheter labs and the cardiac building.

Facilitation and management of specific airway devices for Cardiothoracic surgery i.e: one lung ventilation, standard ventilation, and critical care (Tracheostomy). Provision of advanced airway equipment for video laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy. 

The ODP as an autonomous practitioner, will be expected to provide all aspects of relevant patient care without direct supervision. They will also be required to demonstrate procedures, supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff, and maintain a safe working environment for themselves, their patients, and other colleagues.
