Job overview

Under the umbrella of Digestive Diseases Unit, the successful applicant will work within the GI Physiology Service.

This role is alongside the Trust UGI Structure as part of Ph Manometry studies for UGI investigations.

It involves conducting the full range of GI Physiology investigations independently, including analysis of investigations and timely production of reports.

And it involves supervision of trainees undertaking these investigations

Main duties of the job

To undertake GI physiological investigation at TWH site 

Support the GI Physiology Lead in directing the day-to-day activities of the GI Physiology Service, nursing and admin staff of the service.

Ensure that all work is completed safely, on time and within budget.

Using own professional judgement when providing complex, wide-ranging expert advice to clinical staff on the optimisation of Ph Manometry, quality assurance, and results.

The Specialist, Complex and advanced nature of this expert advice may mean that there is no immediate recourse to another clinical scientist.

In addition, the post holder will also attend and contribute to GI Physiology Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.

If sufficiently qualified, they will be involved in training new and / or visiting members of staff in GI Physiology investigations. 

The successful applicant will be competent and qualified (or at the end of their training period such as STP) in a range of GI Physiology.

You would also be expected to fulfil deputy roles and teaching/training.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First degree in Science or in a relevant equivalent experience
  • Current registration with HCPC/RCCP or working towards registration after completion of training
  • Post graduate qualification / MSc in Science / engineering or equivalent relevant experience
  • AGIP accreditation as an independent practitioner (or eligibility for accreditation)
  • Significant experience as a Trainee or Junior Clinical Scientist/physiologist or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • STP or ASP training programme in GI physiology
  • Teaching qualification
  • Professional Examinations/Membership or equivalence in area of specialisation e.g. Association of GI Physiology

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience at level or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in M level training (i.e. Clinical Scientist) or at Specialist physiologist level, with specialist skills gained in GI Physiology evidenced in professional paper-based or e portfolio
  • Able to undertake biofeedback
  • Experience of undertaking nurse led clinics
  • Experience of undertaking clinical assessment of patients
  • Experience of supporting patients complex physical and psychological needs.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience producing scientific papers, reports and delivering conference presentations
  • Experience of Counselling and follow up care
