Maidstone Oncology Outpatients is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated clinical support worker to join our friendly and supportive team. Our focus is on ensuring that our patients receive high quality care quickly, in clean and comfortable surroundings. Your days will be varied, offering support to nursing team, clinicians and patients across all clinics, providing support, motivation and you will be responsible of ensuring the smooth running of the department. Your skills and expertise will be valued.

We are a fast paced, forward-thinking team, with patient care at the heart of everything we do. You will work within the existing established teams to provide outstanding clinical care and ongoing support for patients undergoing treatment for cancer and COVID.

Main duties of the job
Deliver care in accordance with the department philosophy.
Support the clinics in undertaking necessary observations i.e. blood pressure, pulse etc as per the needs of the speciality clinic and record in the patient’s notes. Reporting any abnormalities to the Registered nurse/clinician in charge of the clinic as appropriate.
Undertake minor clinical procedures, e.g. suture removal or application of complex dressings (following the wound care plan), with the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and as per personal competency assessment. Skillset of venepunture, ECG and proficiency in use of multi hospital systems would be essential for this role.
Assist the Registered Nurse with, and support patients through arrival and discharge from the clinic.

If you do not currently hold a nationally recognised Care Certificate obtained in a healthcare setting from a registered provider, you can commence this role as a Trainee Healthcare Support Worker, Band 2. Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust will assist you with on-the-job training to complete your Care Certificate within the 6-month probationary period, with a minimum completion time being 3 months. Upon successful completion of the Care Certificate, you will progress to a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker.
All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date had been agreed.
Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s Clinical Induction Programme for Healthcare Support Workers (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the CSW Induction Programme Lead if you have any issues: [email protected]), lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling to both Trust sites. The programme includes two supernumerary shifts in the clinical area (an early and a late shift), all of the other days are classroom-based and run from 9am to 5pm.

Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 in Healthcare (or equivalent healthcare qualification) or successful completion of a level 3 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship.
- Care Certificate
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience as a Healthcare Support Worker/Trainee in a care setting.
- Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers (2013).
- Knowledge of the common conditions/illnesses/complex needs of patients within the appropriate clinical specialty.
- Insight into role and responsibilities of post.
- Able to describe the importance of delivering high quality care to patients.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of current healthcare issues.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Can understand and communicate factual information accurately.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Basic information and communications technology (ICT) skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload with supervision.
