Interview date: 28th May 2025

We are recruiting for a Respiratory Consultant who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.  We are looking for a Consultant with an interest in lung cancer, pleural disease or sleep and ventilation but there is flexibility to accommodate other interests and we would welcome an informal discussion.

Main duties of the job

The post will also be involved in improvement in the emergency patient pathway by delivering early consultant led specialist input for patients and facilitate early discharge. This will drive an improvement in both the patient’s experience and quality but will also improve flow.

The Respiratory service also provide daily in-reach ward rounds into AMU and outlying wards.

It would be expected that the post holder would be able to manage Respiratory patients both as inpatients and outpatients. It would also be expected from the post holder to support the delivery of the out of hours and weekend rota (currently at frequency 1:8)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

All of our substantive & fixed term employees can enjoy a range of staff benefits, a gym, an active health and wellbeing programme, an on-site nursery and a cycle to work scheme.

We are taking positive action to ensure that we can attract, recruit and retain the best talent and would welcome more applicants from under – represented groups to support the Trusts commitment to a diverse, inclusive and an employer of choice workforce.

All staff at Medway comply the Trust’s and the Kent and Medway Safeguarding Board’s policies on safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Currently the all consultants share the management of inpatients (Respiratory currently cover a 19 Level 1 beds and a 7 bed level 1.5 Respiratory Support Unit / HDU with a dedicated 7 day / 24 hour junior doctor rota and which is shared between 2 x Consultants at any given time).

The department has a multidisciplinary approach  for all sub-specialities, with the meetings led by Respiratory.  We are fortunate to have a dedicated consultant led acute oncology service for our Lung service and we work closely with them in managing acute cancer admission.

A Mentor will be provided for the successful candidate.

Secretarial support and an adequately equipped office will be provided including IT facilities
