Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Housekeepers at Medway NHS Foundation Trust play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and infection control across hospital facilities. Their duties include surface cleaning, such as dusting, damp wiping, and sanitizing high-touch areas like bed rails, door handles, and nurse call buttons. Approved disinfectants are used per NHS infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
Floor maintenance involves regular mopping, polishing, and deep cleaning, following a color-coded system to prevent cross-contamination. Infection control cleaning requires adherence to protocols for terminal cleaning after patient discharge, particularly in isolation rooms, using appropriate PPE.
Waste management includes the safe disposal of clinical and non-clinical waste, following HTM 07-01 guidelines. Bathrooms and sanitary facilities must be frequently disinfected, with supplies like soap and paper towels replenished regularly.
Housekeepers clean non-critical medical equipment and public areas such as receptions, corridors, and visitor toilets. They maintain accurate cleaning records, report incidents, and support infection control audits.
