We are recruiting for a Specialist Cardiology Lipid Nurse who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality care and management to patients with lipid disorders within the Cardiology Department at Medway NHS Foundation Trust.
This role involves leading lipid management services, offering expert advice, and supporting patients in managing their cardiovascular health related to lipid levels. The role also includes patient education, clinical assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with lipid disorders.
Perform comprehensive lipid and cardiovascular risk assessments.
Manage patients' lipid-lowering therapies, adjusting treatment plans based on clinical protocols and patient needs.
Provide expert advice and support to patients and their families regarding lipid management and lifestyle modifications.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on the NMC register
- Significant post-registration experience in cardiology, lipid management, or a related specialty
- Proven clinical expertise in managing lipid disorders and cardiovascular risk
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate qualification in cardiovascular nursing or lipid management is desirable
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of research principles and the ability to engage in or lead clinical research
- Knowledge of pharmacological and non-pharmacological lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., statins, PCSK9 inhibitors, lifestyle interventions)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Excellent knowledge of current lipid management guidelines and therapies
- Experience in clinical research or audit projects
- Demonstrable experience in a leadership role within a healthcare setting
- Prescribing qualifications (or working towards non-medical prescribing) to initiate and adjust lipid-lowering therapies
Skills
Essential criteria
- Advanced skills in patient assessment, clinical decision-making, and prescribing (if a non-medical prescriber)
- Ability to lead and manage a specialist service, including developing and evaluating clinical pathways for lipid management
- Familiarity with national and local guidelines (e.g., NICE guidelines on lipid modification, QRISK assessment tools)
