Job overview

By working clinically as a member of the nursing team you will work in partnership with the Ward Manger to provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership for a ward-based team of qualified and non-qualified staff. The post holder will be required to deputize in the absence of the Ward Manager and ensure a positive patient experience through the delivery of high standards of patient care.  • Leading clinical nursing practice within the clinical area. • Securing and assuring the highest standards of clinical care with the support of the Ward Manager and Head of Nursing. • The effective management of clinical and non-clinical risk reporting to the Manager within the Directorate Clinical Governance Framework.

Carrying out apprasials, sickness metetings, allocating staff, support the staff on the ward, and students too.

Ensuring clinical audits are completed, and we share the learning with staff.

Patient safety, and maintaining privacy and dignity of patients.

Speaking to patients and relative, and having discusions with them.

Essential criteria
  • At least 5 years post registration
Desirable criteria
  • Acute nursing experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • good Communication skills. Facilitating Staff development and empowerment. Negotiation. The ability to converse at ease with patients, doctors and relatives, and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post
  • Venepuncture, Cannulation, ECG, Verification of Death, IV Drugs and HLS
Desirable criteria
  • Completed ILS training
  • Having difficult conversations
  • completeing apprasials

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Nursing or working towards a degree or equivalent
  • Preparation of mentors or equivalent.
  • Experience of Leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Urology or a surgical course

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • On-going professional development. Clinical governance. Risk management issues. Key issues and development in nursing.
Desirable criteria
  • Quality Improvement tools ward metrics Previous experience of undertaking appraisals, managing staff, and sickness absence. Experience of surgical pathways.
