Job overview

This is a new post which is being offered by this East Kent NHS Trust which offers a unique opportunity for a senior clinical fellowship in BPH surgery utilising novel technologies. The successful candidate will develop skills to perform a plethora of treatments independently and will be ideal to set up new services.

This is a unique and special opportunity has arisen to support a clinical fellow in developing and mastering skills in treating male LUTS and BPH using traditional and novel surgical techniques. The post lasts for one year and would suit a post-CCT trainee in Urology.

Main duties of the job

This is a unique opportunity to focus training in diagnosing and managing men with lower urinary tract symptoms using a selection of established and novel surgical techniques including Rezum, Urolift, Greenlight laser vaporisation and Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate with Moses technology. The successful candidate will develop skills to be a regional expert in BPH technologies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • This post has arisen due to collaboration with industry which opens significant opportunities for ongoing support for mentorship and research development. There will be support to develop research projects with significant funding available.
  • The urology department at Kent and Canterbury Hospital has a urology suite adjacent to the dedicated urology ward. The department has expanded significantly and we are also major cancer centre providing robotic surgery.
  • Further opportunities will exist to visit other sites of clinical expertise and this may involve international visits.
  • The successful candidate will audit outcomes from the range of treatments offered and be prepared to present the data at regional and international conferences.
  • Dedicated research PAs will be incorporated into the job plan.
  • This shall be a 10 PA post, with on-call 1 in 10 rota supporting our current middle grade team.

Skills and Experience

  • Evidence of surgical performance and skills acquisition
  • Previous experience of BPH surgery including TURP
Desirable criteria
  • Past experience of performing HoLEP, steam therapy and prostatic urethal lift implant surgery

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Relevant evidence of GMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Higher level degree such as MSc or PhD
  • Previous research experience
