There has never been a more exciting time to join East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, and we are looking to appoint a Deputy Director of Finance.  This opportunity to join our finance leadership team comes at a time that has never been more important, as we shape and deliver our strategy and work towards better outcomes for patients.

Main duties of the job

As our Deputy Director of Finance, you will be responsible for the delivery of effective, timely and accurate financial performance information, having oversight of all aspects of financial management whilst operating as part of the senior leadership team for one of the largest Trusts in the country.  In this role you will have a close relationship with the Trust’s Chief Finance Officer and will collaborative regularly with the wider Executive team and wider Trust leaders and colleagues. 

We are seeking a candidate with an outstanding track record of success at in the NHS or wider public sector.  With a track record of resilience, you will be able to adapt to the changing expectations within the NHS, dealing with the complex challenges facing providers, being able to question and advise the CFO and Director of Finance accordingly. A key part of your role will be leading and developing a strong and highly mature finance team in a fast-paced environment, inspiring confidence and encouraging development.

  • CCAB Qualified
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Additional qualification or current personal and professional development plans
  • bring added value to the role e.g. leadership training

Skills and experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 5 years financial experience operating at a senior level with a large complex organisation
  • Significant staff management experience
  • Experience of report writing and presentation
  • Excellent financial spreadsheet and analytical skills
Desirable criteria
  • Senior management NHS experience
  • Capacity to work with all stakeholders and accept that the wider interests of the Trust and or health community may require compromise
  • Ability to remain effective and make rational decisions when under high pressure and working to tight deadlines
