Are you an enthusiastic dietitian with an interest in working with adults in the community setting?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic dietitian, to join the community team at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) in West Herts Intermediate Care team as part of the Integrated Nutrition and Dietetics Service and is split between the dietetic care of home visits, clinics, care homes and home enteral feeding depending on service needs. This band 6 post will be based Sandridge Gate Business Centre in St. Albans and is part time at 0.5 WTE.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic dietitian open to innovation, with excellent communication and team working skills to join our team. The post holder will work in collaboration with a variety of professionals, community staff and care agencies.

This post joins a larger team of dietitians working across Hertfordshire within a number of specialties including paediatrics, neurology, home enteral feeding and diabetes. We work in collaboration with other Trusts and stakeholders providing aspects of dietetic care to
patients within Hertfordshire. As part of our service we work in conjunction with our partners Hertfordshire Independent Living Service and Age UK Hertfordshire with focus on care home education and tackling social causes of malnutrition. 

We can offer you 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum payment of £1,769  and a maximum payment of £2,011 per annum (pro rata)

Main duties of the job

The role includes patient work including experience in the following areas:

  • Outpatient clinics (face to face and virtual)
  • Home enteral feeding
  • Home visits and care homes
  • Group education 

You must hold a full valid driving license and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum and a maximum payment per annum, pro rata where applicable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To work as an independent practitioner using a specialist level of knowledge and skills in the provision of a dietetic service to a caseload of patients in their homes, care homes and a caseload of patients requiring Home Enteral Feeding.
  • To work independently and to be responsible for the provision of a dietetic service to designated clinics.
  • To be part of a dietetic rota for triaging referrals.
  • To contribute to the training programmes for health care professionals
  • To provide support and mentorship to newly qualified dietitians and dietetic assistants.
  • To provide group education to patients via face to face or virtual means.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics degree or equivalent.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Attained or working towards a postgraduate qualification in a specialist area or evidence of significant experience in a specialist area.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of British Dietetic Association

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working with patients requiring enteral nutrition.
  • Experience of working with patients in the outpatient setting.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary health care setting
  • Demonstrate an awareness of current relevant research.
  • Evidence of CPD and commitment to life-long learning
  • Up to date knowledge of dietetic practice
  • Experience of student training
  • IT literate
