Job overview
Working at our Fair Havens location, situated next to beautiful Priory Park, the ideal candidate will be responsible for supervising our wonderful Bistro facility, which serves delicious meals to our patients, families, and employees.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will ensure that hospice catering team is fully supported, well managed, ensuring that all catering supplies are stocked and ordered in a timely fashion.
There is also the responsibility for managing the catering rostering, employee holiday allocation, undertaking monthly 121s, and fulfilling audit requirements.
Although predominantly based at our Fair Havens location, there may be a requirement to attend our other site, Little Havens, which is located in Thundersley upon occasion.
There is a requirement to be able to complete weekend working, where required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Prepare the rotas in advance to ensure all shifts are covered. (Including the booking of A/L cover)
- Ensure stock rotation of catering products.
- Ensure ordering is up to date and stock levels are maintained.
- Provide monthly 1-1 support meetings for the cooks in your team.
- Raise any issues with the above points directly with the Soft Services manager.
- To work across the Havens Hospices sites as required. Whilst this will mainly be planned there may be a requirement for ad-hoc short notice changes, to cover sickness absence as an example.
- Liaise with patients and their families, giving guidance on meal selections reflecting their dietary requirements.
- To prepare and cook and serve all types of meals and snacks for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers, providing daily menu choices to cater for differing dietary needs.
- To assist in catering provision for events across the sites as and when required
- Check and manage stock levels, replenishing various local kitchens as and when required.
- Ensure that the log of temperatures records is accurate and up to date and reporting to maintenance using the online reporting system as and when required to report faults.
- Work with set budget margins.
- Ensure all meals are prepared according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and food hygiene systems recording all evidence as required in line with the environmental health and healthcare commission.
Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
- Level 3 NVQ Catering Qualification
- Level 2 Food Safety Certification
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English, or demonstrable good standard of literacy and numeracy skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to own transport
Skills & Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable level of experience working within catering
- Demonstrable knowledge of nutritional and special dietary requirements
- Good level of IT Skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrable experience of working in an environment that requires excellent customer service skills
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
