Job overview

We are looking for a  knowledgeable and committed Tissue Viability Nurse to join the Tissue Viability and Leg Ulcer Service. In this role as a Tissue Viability Nurse, you will be responsible for the management and delivery of care to patients with pressure ulcers, leg ulcers and other complex wounds. You would also be providing  teaching and advice.

This position requires a passionate advocate for patient-centred care. You will be an advocate for supporting the development and implementation of evidence based best practices, and fundamentals of care by empowering patients and healthcare professionals with knowledge and expertise in Tissue Viability. 

This position will support the delivery of the Tissue Viability strategy and is therefore an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference for patients with complex wounds. The role will  develop you further as a clinical specialist in this field, so if you are passionate about wound care, preventative strategies and teaching, we encourage you to apply for this post.

Main duties of the job

Act as a specialist resource in all aspects of Tissue Viability for patients, carers, peers, the multi-professional team and Tissue Viability Links 

Demonstrate autonomous practice in the evaluation and implementation of appropriate and safe wound care management plans for patients

Possess effective teaching skills to deliver training sessions to all levels of staff to ensure that specialist education and training needs are met across the Trust

To support the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialists with the management of patient referrals to the Tissue Viability Service.

In conjunction with the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialists review current treatments, resources use and monitor the outcomes and cost effectiveness of care provision.

Contribute to the implementation of the Tissue Viability strategy which includes the Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Leg Ulcer Strategies

  • Experience as key contributor to pressure ulcer prevention
  • Experience of teaching / training within a hospital setting
  • Evidence of continued CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of tissue viability role at band 6 level

Qualification and skills

  • Registration with NMC part 1
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and non-verbal
  • Use and knowledge of digital platforms and IT systems
