Job overview

This role is part clinical/part operational with management and leadership responsibilities within the x-ray Emergency Department. The primary requirements are to ensure there is constant communication with Emergency Department staff to ensure turnaround targets are met for the benefit of the patients. The post holder is expected to be a positive role model and to lead by example within their service. They will be responsible for ensuring operating theatres, wards and outpatient clinics are provided with a sufficient radiology service. They will also be responsible for the production and coordination of the out of hours radiographer rota and be actively involved in the production of the radiographer weekly rota.

Main duties of the job

  • Effective management of the Emergency Department Radiology team
  • Daily organisation of staff allocated to Emergency Department Radiology
  • Matching workload to staff ability and areas of competency
  • Monitoring performance standards of expensive equipment and bearing responsibility for organisation of repairs/replacements when necessary.
  • Advising on and participating in procurement of new equipment
  • Development of junior radiographers in the trauma setting by performing annual appraisals when required
  • Participating in complaints handling and investigation for the Radiology Emergency Department team, where appropriate.
  • To support and supervise student Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners
  • To develop and implement appropriate training programmes for all staff in the radiology emergency department.
