Job overview

Are you a final year Physiotherapy student due to graduate in Summer 2025?

If so, we are now recruiting to our Band 5 rotational scheme across Colchester Hospital and North East Essex Community Services for staff who will be ready to start their careers with us  between now and the end of August 2025.

Rotational options include: acute medical wards, older peoples wards,  surgery, critical care, trauma and orthopaedics, front door admission avoidance, inpatient stroke, early supported discharge for stroke, community respiratory, community hospital rehabilitation beds, community rehabilitation and MSK outpatients.

The posts are full time - 37.5 hours per week. Weekend working and participation in the respiratory on-call rota would also be expected once competencies are achieved.

Our therapy teams are well established and enthusiastic about delivering high quality services. We have regular In-Service training sessions, clinical supervision and opportunities to get involved with Quality Improvement projects.  We run a Preceptorship Programme for all newly qualified Band 5 therapists.  You will be fully supported by senior staff and the Therapy Professional Leads.

Interviews for this position are always held in person, and involve various stations and group work.

Please note this vacancy may close early if we receive a high volume of applications

Main duties of the job

To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of the condition.  Communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation, and gaining consent will be used with a wide variety of patients.  Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident e.g. loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia, pain, and/or fear.  Many patients will lack the capacity to consent to treatment.

To delegate to and supervise the work of Physiotherapy/therapy Assistants and Assistant practitioners.

To provide advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a co-ordinated approach to patient care, liaising with senior physiotherapy staff.

Working for our organisation

We are one of the largest NHS organisations in England, employing more than 12,000 staff.

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring what’s widely regarded as the world’s best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in hospital for staff and patients.
