We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our In Patient Unit, located at Little Havens Hospice, nestled within the beautiful Essex countryside in Thundersley.
Part time options are available.

Main duties of the job
You will work as a member of our Children & Young Person's multidisciplinary team, ensuring a holistic package of care is provided to patients and their families, creating a welcoming, caring, safe and supportive environment for patients, families and all involved in the work of the hospice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Assist with the care of a patient after death, to provide bereavement support, assist with planning and liaising with funeral directors
- Be aware of the needs of the whole family and to encourage trust and open communication, as well as offering emotional and practical support, especially to distressed relatives.
- Ensure patients wellbeing and recreational activities are prioritised and appropriate referrals are made to specialist services
- Support the nursing staff in the delivery, administration and recording of medication following appropriate policies and procedures.
- Assist medical staff, chaperoning and acting as advocate for the patient if the family are not present
- Participate in the moving and handling of vulnerable patients, often involving specialist lifting and handling equipment.

Essential criteria
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English
- Care Certificate
Skills & Experience
Essential criteria
- Good standard of IT skills, including using Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook and Excel.
- Experience of strong communication skills in previous roles
- Experience of working in an environment undertaking personal care for patients
